The World in a Different View
Ok, so this post might be a little random but I've been sitting here thinking about just life in general and about how much literature has changed my life. It's weird and kind of scary for me to think about because I used to be a very close-minded person who was a true advocate of conformity and didn't know much about the world as a whole. It just boggles my mind how much literature has truly shaped my life. I feel that reading all the poems, short stories with big themes, and novels has opened me up to become a more understanding and versatile person. I was just wondering if literature has done the same for any other people in the class? I know we haven't been in the class for too long but even just now I feel like there is a change in a how I view simple things. It's like everywhere I look I find some deeper meaning in the world and it's all jsut beautiful to me.

I have not gotten there yet in class. I am waiting for that day when I actually enjoy analyzing. Hasn't happened yet.
ReplyDeleteBut- I feel that way with music. I know tons of people love music. But there is something about voices and their combination with instruments, beats, or lack of background sound. The feeling I get when I listen to some of my favorite albums- I want to feel like that when I read literature. I want to be able to feel an absolute high.
Still waiting.
This classs is really an eye opener and does make you think about things in a deeper perspective.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm in the same boat as Aida. If I put my mind to it, and really try, I can analyze a piece of literature pretty thoroughly. However, I just don't find it worth my time and effort. Maybe someday I'll find it fun, and then it can influence and change my life, too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Aida. For me, I haven't reached that point yet but I hope I will soon. It's just hard for me to analyze something all the way down to the smallest details and still appreciate it. I just like reading literature the way it is, figuring out what the author was trying to portray or how they felt when they wrote the piece, and then leaving it the way it is. I don't know, maybe I'm just lazy, but some literature seems better when you leave it alone and just appreciate it for its beauty.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Natalie! I absolutely love reading novels, short stories, and even poetry, but I cannot stand analyzing them. I understand the piece of literature perfectly when it comes to reading it, but when you have to analyze a million aspects out of it and try to find some "deep" hidden meaning, I get lost. Like Natalie said, I enjoy simply reading literature and appreciating it for what it is.
