When is the portfolio due? Everyone I asked has absolutely no idea.
Also, are we allowed to collect poems from a certain era, say the Harlem Renaissance and use some history in our interpretation? Or maybe collect poems from a certain poet and use some of the events in his/her life in our interpretation?

Honestly, I want to have the freedom to choose whatever piece of poetry I want. Even if it doesn't mean anything to anyone. I want to be able to pick the most abstract poem and interpret it MY way. I am pretty sure we can do this. There are no restrictions to the genre, type, or length of the poems we choose. If there were, I would feel limited and that would completely defeat the purpose of interpretation.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this class so hard! and I believe it is any poems we want.
ReplyDeleteWell, I thought picking poems of only one poet or time period could help add some more insight in our interpretation. I'm asking if we COULD do it, not if we're supposed to. I thought it might be could to do all of Edgar Allen Poe and use some of his history in our interpretation, such as, "Edgar Allen Poe's wife died of consumption which led him to right 'Annabel Lee'. This shows that...blah blah blah."
ReplyDeleteOr maybe that's a stupid idea.
Carla, do you remember last year? Luke, Brigid, and Ashley, along with the rest of the AP students, did this towards the end of the year. I remember Ashley made a video photo thing that represented how each poem made her feel, or what she thought it resembled. If I'm not mistaken, she did really well on it, and they didn't have any restrictions on what to pick, besides that it had to be a poem. I'd recommend maybe choosing poems of different themes so you can contrast them and have more to work with.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Mr. Bruno. When is this due? And is this a solo project? I mean obviously we each need to find 10 poems and interpret them ourselves, but what if two people had a similar idea as what they wanted to do? Could they just do 20 poems and sort of combine it? Or is it strictly solo? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteDoes Mr. Bruno even really read all of our comments?
ReplyDeleteHe does, its part of our blog lost grades. At least I think..
ReplyDeleteYes. I definitely read them. The only guidelines are the ones written down on the assignment sheet. Everything else...
