Poetry Project

Daniel Castle and I were talking about doing a video for the project and if anyone wants to be in it with us for their visual part you can just ask us tomorrow especially if you have some great ideas.

  1. I've actually been thinking about this, Chris, and I think I came up with a great idea. the visual part is supposed to show how this experience with poetry has changed the way we read it and view it, or something like that (I'll have to read the assignment again). So my idea was that we take videos of people reciting poetry and cut/splice/whatever them to make our own sort of poem, made up of lines of other poems. And of course, this new poem that we're creating has to explain how our experience with poetry has changed us.
If this doesn't make sense, I'm sorry, I might be able to explain it better in person.

  3. Best friend- you and Chris are pretty creative. I could help if you want. I was thinking about this for my project: Painting whatever I felt right after I read each poem. Even if it is splattered all over the paper- I hope you get it. Instinctual painting- kinda like how I am not supposed to TRY and analyze or look for literary techniques. They should come to me. Just like poetry should make me feel a certain way after I read it out loud. I don't know if that will work. What does everyone think?

  4. Both of those ideas sound really good. Daniel, yours sounds like it could be really cool (and pretty difficult). Aida, I really like that idea. It kind of reminds me of psychology/therapy when the patient is supposed to draw something when he/she hears a word, or when they see a picture and have to say the first thing that comes to mind.

  5. Maybe it could be a scene acted out. A type of visualized enternal battle that takes place between your conscience and your normal way of life. Plenty of pop-culture references to makes things awesome. Hmmmm... Need a camera guy?

  6. I was thinking of doing something with music...I might do what Aida is doing but with music, like picking a piece of music that shows how I felt while I was reading the poem. gahh I don't know...so hard to decide!

  7. I have a feeling Daniel's video is going to be really entertaining. You guys could use what Greg is saying and Daniel's idea. I think that would be the winning mixture.

I think its funny how we are all using our "tallents" for this project. i.e; Natalie is incorporating music, Aida art, Daniel cinematography.
Unfortunately, I have yet to dicover my true artistic tallent

  9. Actually Daniel's idea is quite amazing. It might take a lot of work but it would be so cool to cut and paste all the people together to say one thing. People can say different words but share the same meaning and in our visual project we are showing this.

  10. Holly! You already have discovered your true artistic talent! You learned how to play the guitar in what, a month? And you are amazing! You should incorporate your amazing guitar skills into your project somehow.

  11. Let me just say this: you must create your visual presentation. Starring in a video MADE by someone else does not count as you creating anything. Make sure you keep yourself accountable for the creation of your project. Reading a poem on camera is not creative OR created.
