Does this count as a poem?

http://www.jabberwocky.com/carroll/walrus.html

I was reading this to my brother, because it's the cutest thing I ever read (except for the last bit there) and I wondered it if really counted as a poem. All the poems in the literature bible have some underlying message and intense, extensive analysis and everyone can really get into it. But with this poem, I looked at it frontwards, backwards, and sideways and all I can find is a weird story. Maybe someone else can find something, or maybe it's not a poem at all, just a rhyming story.

  1. It seems like just a rhyming story to me, but if you could somehow pull out a random extensive analysis and find some deeper meaning about life, you could totally use it :] so, good luck with that.

  2. Carla, there is a type of poetry called narrative poetry (think Beowulf and Paradise Lost).

With narrative poetry, fall back on your short story arsenal and begin to attack the story that way. You may be surprised what you find.
