reflective piece on King Lear

In King Lear, Shakespeare gives more of a tradgic view into what happens when money corrupts people that are close to you. King Lear is an old man with three daughters; Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Goneril and Regan give elaborate speeches of love in hopes to recieving the fortune. However, Cordelia wants nothing to do with the fortune. This angers Lear so much that he cuts her our of any money and decides to split the money between Goneril and Regan and live with them. As the play continues on, there is much deciet from Regan and Goneril towards thier father, their husbands, or anyone trying to interfere with their chances of recieving the fortune including each other. All of this deciet and greed leads to the deaths of most of the characters. While the actions most of the characters took were extreme, it is a great insight to how fortune and money will corrupt even people as close as your own family.

  1. In The Taming of the Shrew money also had a great deal of the decisions Baptisa made in regards to his daughters. The difference however, is his decisions were mostly based off of money so that he could ensure that his daughters, Katherina and Bianca, would live a happy life once they married. Shakespeare uses money in many of his plays as a reason for action. Do you think it had to do with the way he lived and how that played a role in his life?
