fear Vs. pleasure

Fear or pleasure? This is the question posed to us while working on 1984 and BRAVE NEW WORLD. Personally, both of these books confused the heck out of me. I did not do well with reading either one. But today in class and the topic of our discussion (life terminations) made me think if i was put into one of these book which would it be...I came to the conclusions that a fear is a fear because it is the one thing in the universe that gives you goose bumps and keeps you up at night thinking and wigging out. Where as pleasure is the almost the exact opposite. But in these books they are complete parallels to one another. in 1984, Winston and Julia engage in romance for what can be taken as they fear-factor risk. They enjoy it because they are being dangerous and rebelling against society and they enjoy the thrill of getting caught. But in BRAVE NEW WORLD every character (basically) engages in such behavior because it is pleasurable and they can do it when, how often, and with whom ever they please. The dictators is both books use their own tactic to get the power they need. One does it by instilling fear in those he rules to get the information he desires while one just pleases all to get the information he wants. So while we discussed our "power to choose" I thought about fear vs. pleasure instead and I decided that i would rather have fear in my life. I chose this only because what is life exactly if you get everything and you are STILL under control of a dictator, and you still have no choice, or get to think for yourself? If i was under the control by fear i have nothing to loose. my situation is exactly the same as if i were pleased all the time, except for a fear instilling dictator does not try to butter you up to get you to do what she/he wants...he just makes you fear her/him. so fear or pleasure? ANSWER THE QUESTION!
