I am going to keep the post short here.
Here are the rules:
1. Post your theme before you post anything else.
2. You must explain the theme in your post.
3. Respond to what people say about your theme.
4. The best theme wins.
Remember, this story is magical realism and it focuses on what may happen if we meet a winged man. Is he an angel? Is he even relevant? Who knows, but that is the challenge.
Happy Thinking,

People try to understand everything about their world, they try to categorize to place everything into neat categories and give everything explanations. When they can't understand or categorize something, when it becomes too ambigious, they dismiss it, it becomes irrelavent. When they first met the winged man, they first were afraid of what he was there for, what he would do. Then they tried to understand him, failed and began to try and classify him, was he an angel, or was he a bird, or something else alltogether. Failling at that as well, began to lose interest. The spider-woman offered what the winged man could not, an explanation, a category, understanding.
ReplyDeletePeople wouldn't recognize a miracle if it found them. They paid attention to all of the easy 'in your face' things going on around them (the spider girl for one), and forgot about the angel. During his stay at the village, everyone seemed to heal. As they did, the angel healed also. But people just attributed the Priest's insomnia getting better... to what? They abandoned the serious matters for the simple ones, not recognizing the miracle in their town.
ReplyDeleteThe most gracious and beautiful things in life come in forms no one would expect. Our blessings come from the grim and dirt sometimes, but transform into something miraculous and beautiful. Also, people don't treat what should be sacred or holy with respect. Everyone thought the winged man was an angel, and I do too, because I think he healed the couple's son; however, they treated the "angel" like an animal, actually less than an animal, and they disregarded him when his appeal wore off. We taint the most sacred things.
